Cornish pilot gig sprint races
Knockout sprint races
Hosted by Mount's Bay Gig Club
NEWLYN FISH FESTIVAL LIFEBOAT GIG RACE
This year’s gig racing at the festival will make a break from tradition. In the past, after the parade of gigs the main race would take place out side the harbour in Mount’s Bay. This year – å la Olympics – the competition will be a series of knockout sprints from one end of the harbour to the other – the finish line will be in front of the fish market so be sure to cheer your favourite gig along!
Parade of Gigs – 1200 hrs
Start of Race – 1215 hrs
Course: Inner Harbour Sprints.
Start line at the south end of the inner harbour and finish line at the north end of the harbour in front of Fish Market. This will be a knockout event racing head to head. All crews will get a minimum of two races.
Presentation to Winning Crew – 1330 hrs approx – in front of the harbour offices by the main entrance.
