Mounts Bay Lugger Association
The Mounts Bay Luggers Association (MBLA) is a community project set up in 1995 to celebrate the Heritage of the Cornish Fishing Industry. Through the work of the project, the Association has been able to restore the 1904, Porthlevan built "Happy Return" which is now in its fifth season of sailing.
The "Happy Return" shall be on display at the Fish Festival on the North Pier adjacent to the Mounts Bay Lugger Association's famous Sardine BBQ. Representatives will be on hand to offer visitors the chance to learn more about Mounts Bay Luggers.

Cornish Maritime Trust Luggers
The Trust was formed in 1994 with the object of preserving examples of historic working boats and their gear, demonstrating them and their traditional uses to the wider public. Boats on display at the Newlyn Fish Festival include the “Barnabas” and “Ellen”

'Barnabas',  a 40ft St Ives Mackerel Driver Dipping Lugger is the only survivor from St Ives of the thousand strong fleet of lug rigged seine and drift net fishing boats registered at Cornish ports at the turn of the 19th century. She is the oldest and largest of The Cornish Maritime Trust’s boats. Built in 1881 and recently restored.

'Ellen', a Gorran Haven crabber, was built in 1882 by Dick Pill for the Willmott Family and is reputed to be the fastest Gorran Haven Crabber ever built. She is typical of the many hundreds of small inshore fishing boats on which the livelihood of so many Cornish fishermen depended. However her lines and Spritsail rig are specific to Gorran Haven. She was presented to the Maritime Trust in 1980 in a sorry state. The Cornish Friends of the Maritime Trust funded her rebuild and she was sold to the Cornish Maritime Trust for the nominal sum of £1 when it was formed in 1994.
